We invite passionate dancers to audition for one of the season’s most beloved ballet performances, The Nutcracker, with Johannesburg’s leading youth ballet company.

Ages 10–13: 11.00am – 12.30pm
Ages 6–9: 1.00pm – 2.30pm
Please note, all candidates must pay an audition fee of R150.00 via EFT or in cash prior to, or on the day of the audition.

Eligibility
Auditions are open to all dancers, ages 6+, with current ballet training or strong ballet backgrounds. Dancers must be in good health, in adequate physical shape and injury free in order to be accepted into the company as rehearsals are physically intensive.
Rehearsal schedules are to be determined, however general training sessions are on Saturdays (Minis, Juniors and Seniors) and possibly Wednesdays (soloists, Juniors and Senior).
Placement in either Mini, Junior or Senior company will be determined based on age, maturity, experience, technique, audition performance and at the Directors discretion.

- Ages 6–11: Ballet leotard, ballet tights, and ballet slippers.
- Ages 11+: Ballet leotard, short skirt that doesn't cover the knees (optional), ballet tights, ballet slippers, and pointe shoes.
- Ages 6–11: White ballet leotard or white fitted shirt, black fitted ballet pants or black cycling shorts, soft ballet shoes.
- Ages 11+: White ballet leotard or white fitted shirt, black fitted ballet pants, soft ballet shoes.
All dancers should have a strong foundation in ballet and well developed ballet technique appropriate for their age.
Minis: Ability to use main muscle groups (abdomen, back & shoulders, glutes), developed musicality, ability to produce basic technical positions with arms and legs and strong coordination.
Juniors: Well established posture and turn out, flexibility, understanding and ability to produce technical steps (polka step, waltz step, pas de bourree etc.), ballet technique (use of head, positioning of feet, legs and arms), coordination and strength.
Seniors: Well developed physique in flexibility and strength, advanced understanding of ballet technique, strong pointe work in center (for female dancers).
All dancers are encouraged to apply corrections and adapt to stylistic elements shown during the auditions.
